Coaching is a confidential, one-to-one relationship with a professional who is invested in your success, strategizing and motivating you to perform at your best. A coach will help you clarify your goals, create a strategy for achieving your goals, and help you to sustain motivation by holding you accountable for the steps along the way.
If you choose to engage in a coaching relationship, you first need to think about what you want to accomplish through coaching. Typical outcomes include gaining new perspectives on specific challenges and opportunities, improved decision-making skills, and enhanced personal and professional effectiveness. In studies conducted to measure the impact of coaching, results have consistently demonstrated a return on investment of more than 500%. In addition, there are improvements in morale, lower turnover and increased productivity.
Costs vary by client location, the extent of the interventions needed, and the experience of the coach. At Psychology For Business, we are clear about the costs prior to initiating the coaching engagement. We discuss the format of the coaching engagement (how often, how long at what location, or by phone, etc.). Coaching sessions can be scheduled for 30 minutes once a week, or 60 minutes twice a month, or individualized to meet client needs.
The length of the coaching engagement will vary according to the issues that are being addressed. With clearly specified goals, coaching interventions can be designed to be targeted and brief. Most coaching relationships last a minimum of six months. For those who are utilizing coaching as a tool for achieving more professional success, an ongoing relationship may result.
At Psychology For Business, we offer a free introductory consultation to discuss the potential for a coaching arrangement. It also makes sense to see if you are comfortable with the coach and if your styles are complimentary. It may help to read some of the materials that the coach has written. (See articles on website).
A business psychologist is a psychologist who has completed a doctorate in the field of psychology, usually taking about 10 years of post-high school education, who has specialized training to enhance human well-being and performance in organizational and work settings. At Psychology For Business, we are especially qualified to problem-solve where people problems arise, as we are experts in human behavior and motivation, as well as business systems and organizational dynamics. We know when a performance problem is related to a motivational issue versus something resulting from a mental health issue. This can be a crucial difference because the actions needed to effectively address the situation can vary significantly.
Assessments are often used to add to the information organizations review to make decisions regarding hiring or promoting individuals. It helps to provide information as to the individual’s natural talents and capabilities. Often, written questionnaires and interviews are used in the process to gather information. The time required to conduct an assessment varies, but can range from one to five hours, depending on the extent of the information desired.
Remember: You get what you pay for. The assessments used by the psychologists at Psychology For Business are not available to non-licensed consultants. The assessments we use have been extensively tested across cultures around the world, and are reliable and valid measures of skills and abilities. Results are confidential and interpreted by highly trained professionals. The turnaround time for verbal results to the organization is generally within 24 hours, which is worth the wait, considering the depth and breadth of the type of results we provide.
